He Gave His All
A young nine year old boy named Timmy lived in a rural town in Tennessee. His home was in a poor area of town.
Also in that town, there was a church who began a bus ministry, where on certain days would go from door to door to see if people needed help, and to introduce them to Jesus Christ.
One day, the pastor of the bus ministry knocked on the door of young Timmy’s house. The child came to the door and greeted the pastor. The pastor greeting him back and asked if his parents were home. “No” responded Timmy, “My parents go away every weekend and leave me at home to take care of my little brother.”
The pastor couldn’t believe his ears and asked him to repeat what he had said. Young Timmy gave the same answer, so the pastor asked if he could come in and talk. They went into the living room and sat down on an old couch with the foam rubber and springs exposed. The pastor asked Timmy, “Where do you go to church?”
Timmy surprised the pastor by replying, “I have never been to church in my whole life.” The pastor thought to himself about the fact that his church was less than three miles from the child’s house.
“Are you sure you have never been to church?” he asked again.
“I’m sure I haven’t,” came his answer.
Then the pastor said, “Well my son, more important than going to church, have you ever heard the greatest love story ever told?” He then proceeded to share the gospel of Jesus with young Timmy.
The young lad’s heart became tender, and at the end of the story, the pastor asked if he would like to receive the free gift of salvation. “Oh yes, of course,” replied Timmy.
The both got on their knees and little Timmy invited Jesus into his heart. After prayer, they both stood up and the pastor asked, “Would you like to come with me to church this coming week?” “Oh yes please,” responded little Timmy.
The following Sabbath, the pastor arrived at the door in the morning and picked up Timmy and his little brother.
It was a big church, and little Timmy was overwhelmed by the number of people, as he had never been in a church before. A few minutes into the service, the offering was taken up. Timmy watched the men with the plates come to the end of the rows and pass them along. As he watched people place their money into the plate, the realisation hit him as to what was required. As it came down his row, he searched his pockets for any money, but nothing could be found. As the plate came to him, he just held it for a little while, then passed it on.
The plate continued on, but his watchful eye was on that plate wherever it went. After it had gone about another eight rows, he sprang to his feet, went out to the isle and tugged the coat of the deacon and asked to hold the plate once more. In front of all those people, and in front of his God, he placed the plate on the carpeted floor and stepped into the middle of it. As he stood there, he lifted his little head up and said,”Jesus, i don’t have anything to give you today, but just me. I give you me!”
That touched the hearts of many a person in that large church that day, and in God’s sight, that was a complete offering, because little Timmy gave all he had - himself.
