Replacement Ministry Vehicle
Autumn Leaves and white vans have become synonymous. In July 1998, we had the need of a reliable and versatile vehicle to transport people and items around the country. After looking we purchased the Toyota Hiace that was our faithful workhorse ten and a half years, and never let us down once on the road. We kept it well serviced and maintained for the constant demands.
However earthly items do deteriorate and reached over 300,000 km with evidence of the constant weight and travel. With the type of work demand from our vehicles —long distance, often remote and time critical—we felt it was better to replace the van before it started to develop trouble, or become unreliable, as it is an essential part of the ministry.
Late in 2008 we began searching for the best option to replace our faithful workhorse. Valuing the input from those we spoke to and looking at the changing automotive market, we sought the best value for funds spent.
In December we stepped out to secure a new Toyota Hiace to take over the workload, which we believe will give us good service for a long time. We had it kitted out with seats, for transporting people to campmeetings, youth camps and outreach programmes etc, and these seats are removable for book trips, general bulk loads etc.
We laid this project before those that have an interest in the ministry. This is a large cost for such a small ministry. We initially purchased the vehicle from funds specifically given for this and by temporarily borrowing against other funds. We anticipated repaying this as soon as possible. With the sale of the old van, and the generousity of contributors the vehicle was totally paid for by the end of April 2009.
We wish to thank those who were part of this project to keep this ministry functioning efficiently.
